All crane or hoist operations on the Texas A&M University Campus must be approved before any lift may commence. In order to ensure proper review time for the application the request must be submitted to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) a minimum of 3 working days prior to the scheduled lift. Relevant information such as equipment certification, operator’s license, site plans, etc. should be attached to ensure timely review and approval.
Access to Job Site:
The site must be secured by barricades (caution tape or fencing) to prevent unauthorized entry to the area by: faculty, staff, students, visitors, and unauthorized construction personnel. The barricades must encompass the length the boom is extended plus 10% and the area the boom will swing if the crane was to encounter a critical failure.
Occupied Buildings:
Occupied buildings that fall within the lift area must be evacuated to cover the lift areas.
If approved, EHS will issue a permit allowing the crane or hoist to be delivered and setup of the crane(s) to commence. Additionally, EHS will notify local emergency responders of the lift.
Mobile Crane Safety information may be found on the EHS website.
